Hyderabad - It is proving to be a fatal attraction at least for some fans of Chiranjeevi. As elsewhere on his roadshow, it was a sea of humanity that greeted the mega star-turned-politician in Chief Minister Rajasekhara Reddy's home constituency of Pulivendula in Kadapa district on Thursday.
Three in the crowd were electrocuted, one died. In Anantpur district two days ago, two died -- one fell off a tree and another died in a stampede.
Despite police deployment and a volunteer force, crowd control has proved difficult. That's perhaps why Chiranjeevi had warned at his first public meeting at Tirupati itself that his fans should take responsibility for their own safety.
"Keep your enthusiasm in your heart. Don't show it on the roads. Be careful. Any mishap will cause me distress and that won't be right on your part. So please be careful," the Praja Rajyam president said.
A public interest petition has now been filed in the Andhra Pradesh High court raising important questions about the public inconvenience caused by such meetings and who is ultimately responsible to ensure safety.
It was the game of numbers that had the Telugu Desam mobilising over 10 lakh people for its Yuvagarjana show recently, paralysing traffic on the national highway for nearly 24 hours.
The Congress is guilty too, pulling out all stops to show that the Chief Minister is a crowd-puller too.
